Our children depend on us for the three Ls - love, learning and laughter. However, there's one very important thing that our babies are counting on us for - safety.

Childhood Injury:

In their early years, children are vulnerable, helpless but extremely precious. This is why we owe it to them to safeguard them from predictable and unpredictable injuries and dangers. The World Health Organization reports that in 2002 alone, more than 700,000 children age 14 and under were killed by an injury. Report also shows that if a level of childhood injury control had been incorporated many children would still be alive today.

Missing Children:

In 2005, there were more than 65,000 children reported missing in Canada alone and the numbers are increasing every year since 1993. Nothing is more heartbreaking for a parent than to not have their child home at the end of the day because something went terribly wrong. We expect our children to be safe when they're either at school, at the playground or with the caregiver, but this is not always the case. It is crucial, therefore, to be current on your child's whereabouts at all times, even if it means phoning every 10 minutes. However, we all have busy lives working to keep the family afloat so it's important to know that we can wholly trust the people or institutions responsible for our children while we're away so do your research carefully.

Allergies:

A school census conducted in 2005/2006 in Canada showed that 34.65% of girls and 31.59% of boys answered yes to having a serious allergy. This is a very serious but sometimes unintentionally overlooked condition that needs to be addressed and given full attention each day. Finding the necessary help and products that can effectively address this issue should be a top priority. It may mean saving your child's life - maybe in the nick of time.
